Can Elmas
Can Elmas was born into a family of architects in Ankara, Turkey He graduated from Ankara Tevfik Fikret High School. He then went to North Carolina for a year, after winning a scholarship from AFS.
He graduated from Faculty of Architecture at Middle East Technical University (METU) as the second ranked of the department.He worked for Losco Pellegrini and Dardi Architecture Offices in Rome, Italy after graduation.
He won the Fullbright scholarship and studied at University of Oregon, Portland about Energy Conservation Housing Design and received his Master in Architecture Degree.
After graduation, he worked for Sera and Yost Grube Hall Architecture Offices. He also worked together with his father, architect Erdoğan Elmas while visiting Turkey during summer holidays. During that period he won National Architectural Project Award by his Urfa Estate Housing Project.
Being an active green design advocate Can Elmas won the UNESCO Award for Sustainable Future Design Competition in 1993. He won 3rd place at NOVEM Nederlands Energy Agency Photovoltaics Competition in 1994.
Can Elmas continue working with Architect Çağla Akyürek Elmas since 1998 at Can Elmas Mimarlık Ltd. Şti. Their experience includes several projects for industrial, housing, tourism, education, commercial and urban design.
They won various awards in competitions. He received European Properrty Award with the Magic Ice Mueseum Project in 2011.He presented papers at symposiums.
He is fluent in English, French and Italian. He speaks some Spanish.
Can has a son and a daughter. He loves cycling, playing tennis and skiing.
